Choosing my top ten...

Top 10 facts about Earth and its orbit

Top 10 survival skills

Top 10 facts about bizarre phobias

These are the three that i have selected that i think offer the most promise and will keep me the most entertained through-out the project... The way in which i think would most entertain me would have to be something that i didn't know a lot about or something which i pay the most attention too.

Below is some collection of information on each of these so i can then see what sort of resources i would be working from so i have the best background possible to what i want.

(this one could be rather dry, after looking at some of the above websites, they all appear to be the same and this could leave me in quite a sticky scenario to what i need to be in when im still in this open decision time, this may be one that i don't do cause i need the most time)

(this so me could be the one that i go for due to it leaving a lot of options there forme to explore, i can then play around with the ways in which i look into this, as at first sight it makes you think of survival in the wild, however there is also the way that you can survive in the normal ways of living, i could then look into things such as 'how to avoid awkward conversation' and other problems such as these)

(this could be something that i look into, it adds that interesting way of working and looking in what i think are my fears and what are the most popular ones. this could potentially change the way that i create the final outcome for this. There is so much that i could possibly achieve for this)
After looking into my three choices i tihnk i want a little feedback and see what others think in a mini crit. this could then help me deside on what the best and what the worst are

Sequencing with Style...

These sheets are which i created with a five lined time line to show that even if you have five lines it doesnt mean that each line has to be the same length apart, this is so that if you have loads of things going on in the first second of a five second sequence then you don't need to have it all cramped onto one line.

You could have the first two lines resembling this by having half a second on each line, this would then give me more space to work with.

As i described at the top of this post, each of my lines are not 1 second in length as i wanted things to move at a much slower pace towards the start so i made sure that things were lengthened and then as you got towards the end things would speed up as the lines meant alot less.

Above are how my frames will start to look from now on, as they have the action safe on them. a clear box around the outside to show the frame, the time at which they will be placed through-out my sequence and also a small amount of information to which describes what is going on and how i want it to progress from that point onwards.

Sequencing for Five Frames...

This was the work which was expected for Freds section of the workshop, this is where we had to get our five favourite ideas that we think worked best overall from the five sheets that we created and then place them onto a time line in which pace we would want them to work the best for and then this would give me an indication when i go onto after effects to really make these work better than just trying to go straight into the program with nothing but a blank screen.

Keyframe Interpolation using Illustrator paths

Interpolation means to insert between key points.

Besia curves on After Effects, these can be adjusted exactly the same as you would in illustrator. these have anchor points and also give you that chance to be able to make the way path of an object or text to move along this line.

This is the top tool bar which you have some of your options on which you can use, the one that you would use to create the besia curves would be the pen tool.

If you click and hold this button down you are then able to work with the way in which you want things to be work, this can give you a strong way in which you can work by using the process of the convert tool and the vertex tools.

After Creating You Path.

you can then select the centre key frame in the centre you are then able to click on the animation section on your top work bar and then you are able to click on the keyframe interpolation,

This is my way path before editing.

as you can see from the above image, the standard settings are on continuous bezier, this is a way in which your way path will stay the way that you have drawn it. however if you then change the spatial interpolation to linear you then can achieve a different outcome.

New way path after editing.

Now to create 5 key frames on one way path

If i am then to change the temporal interpolation, this will effect the key frame to become a HOLD KEY FRAME, this will make sure that there is no change between keyframes.

My way path before the hold interpolation had been placed on

AFTER my way path has had the hold interpolation placed onto it.
after doing this i will also be able to see that the diamonds have changed in the time bar at the bottom right, these now should look like this

To SPEED UP or SLOW DOWN and of the key frame sequence you can then make sure that it keeps the same consistency, i can change this by selecting all the key frames and then holding down the ALT key and this will then move then all the same so you can adjust it to one second, but then could also keep the same gaps between the frames yet have it at two minutes.

To Keep A Constant Speed...

When i have a key frame and i have rapid change in the speed that things are changing, i can alter this to make sure it all works together and at a decent pace.

To do this all i need to do then is to make sure that i select the centre key frame points on the position section of the sequence of which i want these to work. i will then make sure that i go back to the key frame then you can either

Right Click > Rove Across Time
or
Go into the interpolation interface again and then change the bottom setting to Rove Across Time.

Importing Vectors from Illustrator then using as Way Points on After Effects...

First you need to open Illustrator

Secondly copy the vectored shape then you can paste this over the shape in After Effects.

This will then give you a way path so that it moves perfectly around the outside of the letter. this will give you a strong look on what you would want to happen.

This works with any of the possible outcomes for anything that you may need.

I am also able to make the text or image to move along the way by sticking to the way that it works with the Auto-Orient tool, this allows you to make something move along a path and make it stick by following the steps above.

Using Masks On After Effects and Illustrator...

On your work you can then create a solid which fills the full composition, this then can be changed by if you go to the top left section where you will see these options

these can then be drawn over the top to make sure that you then have a other shapes other to the standard square, once you have drawn these on you can then add these over the top and this allows you to work with these.

These options will then become available, these are like the position and the possible other key path options which can be changed, although these have a more varied view on what will happen with the shape.

if you click on the edge of the shape you can then alter this as if it was an Illustrator document.

This allows you to go from the first image below, to the second with ease.

If you want things to pulsate, you are then able to simply copy and paste a key frame. this can be changed by simply copy and paste a key frame then move to the section where you want it to convert back to this section. This then will give the effect i was trying to achieve.

TO ADD A MASK OVER THE TOP OF TEXT

all i need to do is have the text that i want to be altered by making then click on the mask path, this then allows you to make the mask move over the top on anyway that you want things to happen.

With a new solid layer added into there and it still selected, i can then copy and paste a illustrator vector straight from illustrator, this then allows you to be able to copy it straight in as a mask.

Once you have done this you can also modify each point on this overall so that i can then make things look like they are melting and / or corroding. (and any other ways you may like it to look)

When placing some text over the top of a pattern which yo have imported from Illustrator, you are then able to make this work for you in the best possible way by using the Toggle Switches / Modes which you can find below

This should then toggle up this section change bar which will then give you the option to make the polka dots just in the place where the text is and no where else.

If you then select the "Alpha Matte 'dots texts'ai" due to this being the layer that is sat on top.

This is the effect i should then be able to achieve.

BELOW IS ONE I TESTED WITH THE SAME TECHNIQUE BUT THEN ALSO ADDED WAY PATHS.

Lorraine Workshop - Action Safe and Title Safe.

In this session it helped to tie in with what i learnt with mike in the MAC sessions, this was down to the way that the title safe and the action safe are both crucial when you are wanting to create frames for after effects, this comes down to when i then added the green lines around the outside to show a replica of these as you would see them in the program.

These are ranged over more then five frames so you are able to see what progress would be made and it also helps to give a range of time and how these would then advance over the time sequence, each could range in time and the number of frames that are needed for this to make the most sense possible towards me so that when i look back to reflect everything is there.

Sequencing Time Line...

after completing the task where we had to gather a video from the internet and break it up into 25 equal distance apart frames, i then printed them off on a smaller scale so that i could place these onto a time line so i could then see how they were gapped apart

I also had to get 25 of the key frames where i thought the biggest changes happened and these had a massive impact on what i wanted to do, this is posted above of my outcome.

Fred WorkShop Task.

Identify a list of what you learnt on Tuesday...

How to import from photoshop.

When inserting text into after effects make sure to click the merged section of the box which you will have pop up.

You can select all the tranformers when you press command A in the bottom left panel box, you can then alter all of them accordingly.

To make the image move from place to place all you need to do is click the position and then drag and drop the line of which the movement you want it to change.

Remember to save all the work in the same folder so when it comes to rendering you wont lose any of the images and create some crazy lines coming up on your screen.

Whats a Key Frame...

A key frame is a major change in the series or events when creating a sequence. This can range from when you have to change the way that a letterform looks or acts in the sequence.

What problem have we encounterd...

When coming to make the shapes move in one way or change the form, then i can make sure that it does what you want it to. This comes down to the key frames all then becoming over the top of each other and this is when you start to get some serious problems on your hands.

What information do you need to be able to make these timelines...

You need to know what the equal time is for the length of time line that you have created.

Be able to evenly mark out where and what you want to achieve on the paper based time lines.

Know where the key frames are in each sequence.

Full Word Sequencing...

These are the next few stages where instead of just using a letterform we then had to design 5 sheets for 5 frames for 5 sequences (beautiful maths) which showed how our ideas then began to advance and show our understanding of how sequencing and frames can help your concept along.

There are a few on these sheets which i think we developed towards the back end of the sheet designs, so i defiantly think that my ideas became stronger as i continued.
