Logo Designs...

Tutor who taught the session and set the brief: Fred

First we had to write five things which will link to the message we had been told, these have pictures took of these and then are posted below, you can then see the thought process which i went through to get to this advanced stage which im at now. 

We then had to select the ones which we thought worked best and related to our "What is Good" the best. these 9 statements were then listed down on a single piece of paper and placed on the wall, again below you can see evidence of this. 

This then all linked into creating logos as this will soon be a key section and a major part of our future job, the only way in which this all can be linked together and be changed to make the most sense is through showing the work in which i have created. For this section we had to create 32 logos, to do this we had to fold a sheet of paper into 32 area's and then fill them in certain ways. under each image ill describe in more detail.

These below are some of the logos that we had a minute to create each one for, this was something that was really tough to do but really pushed us to our limits and will help us in the long run.

This is one of my favourite logo's which creates the shape of the sole of the shoe to a certain degree but just how it reads with the depth of the line and how it makes it look like its really strong together and even thought its written in two separate ways its still legible.

The concept on this one works really well aswell but i made a mistake on the two bottom ones, the print and peed should be without the p's so that they read right, none the less i will re-create this to fit the brief alot better so that it all reads together and makes the most sense possible that i can get from this little design. 

Remember.

Focus is the key, something which is vague wont work and with any statements which you are making you need them to be correct. 

so remember BE SPECIFIC!

For next session we have to bring in some logos, identity or brands which relate to our list which then have been reviewed and made unarguable.

Design Proposal Ideas...

Idea 1.

Shin Splints + Running Shoes. 

The Concept.

the concept behind this was that 15% of all the injuries when it comes to sport is down too shin splints because people don't wear the correct footwear and this leads them to a massive amount of injuries. To solve this i am going to create, a range of publications and other things which would coincide with it to make a whole project. 

I plan to inform anyone with an active lifestyle, this is because this can be anyone who does stop/start sports.

Idea 2.

Re-brand a running shoe.

The Concept.

New Balance are one of the only running shoes which is left in the UK, but with it not being a very popular running shoe the way in which it is advertised, it would be good to re-brand this so i am able to make it work rather well and it would then link in to alot of the branding markets which the other style of running shoe already do. 

This could be alot of different things, it could be to inform of the new style of running shoe but it could also be to inform them about that style and brand of shoe. Which ever it is, ill make sure its well known.

At the Printers

These are the notes which i took whilst Lorenzo was talking to us at the lecture about what printing styles are which are right when it comes down to the style of printing and preparing for print... 


Repo Graphics - inbetween digital and technical print, this is the middle guy who makes sure that all the colours are right and that everything will print correctly, this could save a company a fortune when it comes to stopping and picking up on the small mistakes. 




There are four main topics of printing, then there is some sub categories but these are the main ones:-


Rotary printing 
Screen printing 
Digital printing 
Pad printing 

Under the heading of Rotary printing there are three other styles which can come from this one, these being offset lithography, rotogravure and flexography

that above is an example of how it would work to have offset lithography, this would be the way to do it. to make it work the best.

Newspapers could be printed onto things such as these, this would personally be the best way to be able to get the most out of it when it comes down to the final. the reason it would be done on this scale and through the use of WEB offset is from the reason that you need to be able to print loads at a fast rate and this is a way which will make the most sense from it all and then at the other end when you have this massive "toilet role style paper" you can then chop it using another machine and it'll look complete. 

Flexography would be best printed onto cellophane or crisp packets, its made for something which aint necessarily the best quality but can produce alot of the same thing for cheap. Crisp packets and things such as that don't need to have alot of value behind them because they will only have a short life and will get binned pretty much straight after there main purpose is complete. 

Lithograph - planograph - flat 

Rotogravure - Intaglio - first style of print method 

Flexography - Relief - Raised surface for longer lasting print pads. 

Digital RIP (Rasta image processor) this is where the computer will then get the code from the computer and then change it into a code which the printer can understand, this then allows the printer to pick up the code easier and get the prints correct. HOWEVER THIS IS FOR MORE SHORT RUNS

PAD Printing, this style is for 3d printing objects, this is made so that you are able to print onto items such as Headphones, Helmets and other items like these. Here is a video which shows how its done...

Always remember to check the colour swatch at the top for a quick and easy way to see that everything is printing through at a fast rate and still to the presets which you started on the first one. this is the easiest way to check to make sure that the inks in the printer isn't messing up. 


This allows you to check the density of the ink, you can do this through the use of a Linen Tester. these are the best way to be able to check up on this.

Grip and Lay Edge - this is the a place where the corner section be placed to make it so that you can make sure that when you are doing screenprinting you can perfectly line it up each time and get a perfectly crisp print.

Spot UV Varnish, - stencil where you want to place the varnish and then you are able to get this tidy little section which adds extra value to the whole piece that you have created, this can be a cheaper way to make something look really expensive

Iridescent Foil Print - this is basically the same as the spot UV varnish, although they are basically the same thing really.

Bus Stop Ads... these are also known as Ad Shells.

This first section is about processed colour.

When creating a new document there is an option named under the advanced section, these two options are CMYK (print) and RGB (screen) 

CMYK can sometimes be named as 'process' when it comes to digital. 

The next thing we are going to look at is the different ways in which we can add colour to our artwork, These are the following...

select the area in which you want to fill, then you double click the colour pallet from the side, then the colour selector will come up and this will then let you pick the colour and other such options.

if you go to the right top pallet looking icon on the right hand side, there is a CMYK slider bar options, this then allows you to create the colour you want, this could be very useful if you are to have a pantone book in front of you. 

We will now create our own colour pallet.

First we need to delete all the default swatches that in that colour pallet, if you click the drop down which is next to the top right area again of the window you have now ... you then click select all un-used colour patches. then click the recycling bin so that you can just delete them all. 

You should be left with four swatches.. Black, White, No fill and registration. 

(registration is just used for trim marks, these are so that you can get prints perfect each time if your doing screen printing, but this can also be used the same way if you are to cut the same image by hand numerous times, this is the make sure way that they get cut right each time)

To create a new swatch you can then click on the top right palette again then you click the drop down, make sure its on CMYK or which ever print process you are doing then on the drop down bar which again is in the top right area there is a section which you can then just click, create a new swatch. 

This second section is about Spot colour.

a spot colour is classed as a single colour, the main purpose for single spot colour is when you look at it being applied to a image or something which then only has the one basis colour, then you will only use tones of this colour, this makes it a very different style and a very strong outlook. 

colours which cant be used as CMYK so things such as metallic coloured ink and things such as this can then be turned into spot colour, this makes it a big chance when it comes down to the final design.

Running Shoes.


There are more than one reason for me picking running shoes for the design proposal for what i think good is, although my main purpose for me picking this would have to be down to the reason that i go running a lot and they are something which has helped my technique and style. 


For a lot of runners there are many injuries you can pick up, one which is a big issues and is normally 15% of the accidents is down to shin splints, this is something which has affected me personally, this is when you get a pain which runs down the length of the shin, this is most common with the use of sports which include stop start running, such as football, basketball, tennis, anything that applies alot of downward force to the shin.

So Second Year Begins...

In Design DPS Partner Layout.

I first started by making loads of different questions after getting the really silly things thats sadie said in day to day life, this then helped me get a nice list of things together so you would then be able to read as if sadie was actually really stupid, this makes her come across as something she is not and this will add to the comedy factor which i was trying to achieve.

I then quickly threw together a quick layout of what i wanted the final outcome to look like, i placed in place holder text so you could then get a representation of what was actually going on, this all then makes sense when i create my next level design of work, the layout should look a lot stronger in the final designs. although i am a fan of what has already happened on this design.

I will now start to create the actual final design. 

This is the start, which i have followed of the basis that i have already created for the last design but i think that the way in which this is being made makes the most sense. The green dot at the top then makes sense about the way in which it will be made, the grid system in this design looks like it works rather well although i think that the text is a little to confusing to be simple and created under this program, maybe i should make this less confusing.

Here i have now added the images and the text to the right needs a lot of work on it cause it wont work with this style of design, it looks to rushed and not like the standard which i want to achieve. Although the layout on the left is basically how i want it to look, i may have to edit it so that it can be placed into the correct position easier.

This is then the next stage of what needed to be created for the final design of everything. i added the quotations to the top as i think that it added a whole new design concept to the drawing board. The first image was how i tried to place the text into a single column and then hand that in, however this looked too squashed up and didn't fit the agenda right enough. i then changed it to the two split columns with the text aligned opposite each other so that the solid backs are to each other.

The quote has then had the speech marks placed under the text and then dropped back in opacity, this gives it a little more graphic design edge factor, this then makes the text to the right hand side read a lot better and give it the effect of drawing people in to want to read it.

This above is the final design, this is after i have placed the page numbers on the side, the opacity has been dropped back to 50% on all of the text which plays no major part in any of them and the images have all been sat correctly. This for me works well, and once i have printed this onto ancient white stock so that it doesnt look as boring then it will work rather nicely i believe.
