Feedback from the logo development

The logo that is created using the triangle and the text towards the top is the logo which got picked out by my "client group" as to have the most chances of becoming the best out of the ten which i selected.

I then need to be able to work with this logo in a way which will help increase the style of how it looks and what i want to achieve from it.

To do this i needed some feedback from the critics and the piers who choose my logo. Below is the feedback in which they told me...

We enjoy the triangle effect as its reference to triathlon and the three events works well
Nice composition
Not sure about the relevance to running shoes in relation to triathlon, however it could be link easily through an range of things
Try to make it look more sporty
Change the triangle into a equilateral triangle so that it looks more even as the triathlon is
Try to add a visual reference to shoes in there.

From these notes i will be able to create a logo which meets more the criteria of which i have created when i wrote down the nine phrases to start with. I will post my development once it has been created.

Rick Bell ... Visiting Professionals - Kent Lyons

Rick Bell was a freelance graphic designer who also had experience in photography and believed in two things, working hard and presentation. If you did these two things well then he believed that you are able to do anything.

If you do your presentation well then this is the key to getting recognised, but find a balance, good presentation is only worth it if you have good work, so don't only focus on one or the other, you need to find a balance between the two.

By this time we should all have a website which is payed for a created to make sure you can get yourself out there and its something which is simple and easy for people to look at, no one likes it when you have to struggle to get your self out and fight to make a name for yourself.
If you are handing out your website you want it to be easy for people to navigate around not something which will prove to be rather challenging.

Shows...

IF / WHEN you go to a show, you need to be on it, if you have a chance to get yourself out there more, take advantage of this. make sure that you can impress them by your knowledge of the work you have produced.

If someone is to come over to your stand where your work is stood out, make yourself known so that people are there to talk to you, if someone is showing an interest in your work, talk to them with confidence. but under no circumstances. DO NOT HOUND THEM.

Placements...

when your applying for a placement or some sort of work experience, do not forget to add, a cover story, a one page CV, and remember to give specific dates when you are able to go and work for them, if you are too vague this will most likely put them off and make them lost instant interest in you.

When you hand out this CV to places, don't just do 10 that you like, send it out to 100's as hardly any will get back to you. the more you hand out the more you will be able to get done in the time in which you need to have it done.

When you get some replies back accept any of them, at the end of the day. Experience is Experience.

Rick Bells Personal Recommendation.don't jump straight into a job after university, get some experience by testing more jobs and seeing what best interests you and what you think should happen when it comes to the time to do this.

When you get a placement don't expect to be able to jump straight into a design seat and make some tea instantly, you need to be able to make alot of tea, as this will be your starting job. Also when you are sat there with nothing to do, your doing it wrong!! ... if you have nothing to do make sure you do... confusing i know but if your sat on your lazy arse get up and ask if anyone needs help. offer to make tea, read a book, look through there archives of information, anything to make yourself progress.

GET YOUR FINGERS IN SOME PIES. (get more then one job opportunity on the go at anyone time)

and remember you wont always get payed to do the little nitty jobs when you are a designer, sometimes they will allow you to go on there amazon account and get a free book from them or maybe even a little payment may happen.  You could get anything from £50 - 250 for a weeks work, its not much but it certainly helps pay the bills.

Some inspirational work from Kent Lyons. (these are some of the very simple design work which they have created, this is the style of work which i think really suits my style of creating and something which i find really inspirational)

Stock Options and Print Finishing...

This is another print session which we are able to see has worked rather well due to my responses which are posted on the context blog showing how i understand what Lorenzo has been talking about and i have answered his task accordingly.

Here are some of the notes from the session which he delivered...

Duotone
this is a two tone or two spot colour process which you may be able to see a third colour come through on the final print. This will be the stock colour, this is a crafty way to make things cheaper so that you are able to get three colours by using the right stock accordingly.

Tri-Chromatic
Screen printing because it holds its opacity and can also create some really strong effects.

Duo
Two tonal layers but decided before print because it needs to be printed fresh on its own, this can then make the part which you have printed more prominent and more demanding

Two Spot Colour
Simply two colours which have been printed to just make the colour which are there, these are easy to see and can easily be distinguished between the two.

The difference between spot colour and duo tones.

Spot Colour is a specific colour made for a purpose, this is normally created through the pantone swatch book.
Duo is created from a mix of two colour, normally from the CMYK range.

Logo Development

This shows the development process of the logos for which we had to create to meet the brief of freds Wednesday session, this was something that will be a key aspect of our future careers, the task was to create 150 logo's which met certain requirements. These being...

Hand Rendered
Monochrome
A6
Created from Word, Letterform and Symbol, then i must combine two of these features for each logo.

This below is the thought process which i first went through when i was jotting down the ideas which then lead onto me being able to create such a large amount of logo's which really did gather up all the ideas which i had in my head and which i wanted to be able to create.

This below is the list of words which i wrote down as well to be able to get such a broad range of logos, this was then something which i could work from and link into the subject matter "running" which my good was based around. The list greatly helped me when i got stuck with different logos, i could then resort back to this list and then it would allow me to start a whole new thought process which can base around the design and the concept of what i want to be able to design.

Now that all my ideas where jotted down and i had a visual board in front of me, i am able to create a much more design aspect way of working and how i want to be able to manage all of this, below are the logos which i created and this then shows how it all works together.

The ones which are surrounded by an orange line are the ones which i choose for the final 10 which we got asked to do, then this way we are able to give these to a different group of people and then be able to selected the one which they think has the best potential and which could go the furthest...

Typography - Graham's Workshop

What is type: in essence its a visual representation of a word, placed in a form, its also a way in which you can talk to a person who sit there cause it can be carried through time.

The form and style of type: to a certain degree the different styles and forms of type could be represented as a different style of type and point size.

What we will look at in these sessions: we will work with indesign and we will physically create stuff using no colour only the power of how type can communicate to another person.

Look at.
The first book ever created.

The new revolution for the 21st century is the internet, the past 650 years of rules for type have been basically the same with only a few changes, the exciting thing about the new way to look at things and how to do things can now be changed through the use of the internet,

anyone can put anything up on the internet so anyone can look at anything anywhere at anytime on the internet...

Quark Xpress is a really stable platform to get the information of the computer and onto a piece of paper.

Logo Designs...

Tutor who taught the session and set the brief: Fred

First we had to write five things which will link to the message we had been told, these have pictures took of these and then are posted below, you can then see the thought process which i went through to get to this advanced stage which im at now.

We then had to select the ones which we thought worked best and related to our "What is Good" the best. these 9 statements were then listed down on a single piece of paper and placed on the wall, again below you can see evidence of this.

This then all linked into creating logos as this will soon be a key section and a major part of our future job, the only way in which this all can be linked together and be changed to make the most sense is through showing the work in which i have created. For this section we had to create 32 logos, to do this we had to fold a sheet of paper into 32 area's and then fill them in certain ways. under each image ill describe in more detail.

These below are some of the logos that we had a minute to create each one for, this was something that was really tough to do but really pushed us to our limits and will help us in the long run.

This is one of my favourite logo's which creates the shape of the sole of the shoe to a certain degree but just how it reads with the depth of the line and how it makes it look like its really strong together and even thought its written in two separate ways its still legible.

The concept on this one works really well aswell but i made a mistake on the two bottom ones, the print and peed should be without the p's so that they read right, none the less i will re-create this to fit the brief alot better so that it all reads together and makes the most sense possible that i can get from this little design.

Remember.
Focus is the key, something which is vague wont work and with any statements which you are making you need them to be correct.

so remember BE SPECIFIC!

For next session we have to bring in some logos, identity or brands which relate to our list which then have been reviewed and made unarguable.

Logos are created through the use of 5 elements.

Colour
Typeface / Letterform
Image
Words
(Shape ... this can be created from the use of any of the others)
